I developed a love for all things trashy, old, gaudy and quirky at a very young age. My mother, who has a much more sophisticated taste than mine, used to drag me along on antique adventures as a child. Whenever we had road trips, we’d stop in the little shops on the side of the road all over Pennsylvania and I’d complain the whole way through the shop, unless there were antique soda bottles to look at or something she made interesting by telling me that particular thing was from when she was my age. I still couldn’t believe a soda was only 10 cents and came in glass bottles! What?
As I became slightly older, I began to really pick up on the antique thing. Rather than be bored by the trips, I’d venture off into the REALLY old parts of the store. The rustier, the better. It was in fifth grade I became completely obsessed with the colonial era of America and swiftly became an avid fan of dresses, jewelry, hats and books of time before I existed. I was fascinated by Victorian dresses and huge rubies, flapper-era dresses and the Prohibition.
I started buying my own things when I got a job at sixteen. I first started with books, then typewriters, then awful polyester shirts that looked better in the closet on a hanger than on my sixteen year old body, though, retrospectively, I totally would have worn those digs today.
When I hit college, all I could afford was used clothing and I fell in love with scavenging with like-minded college buddies. I, inspired by my mother’s classy tastes, developed my own eye for vintage. Which leads me to this:
A pipe dream of mine for some time has been to create an online shopping venue bringing the best vintage finds and used clothing to the world. I lost my job a few months ago and decided to act on that dream. The result? This website. I bring you the coolest, funkiest and relevant vintage finds from my treasure hunting around town and the country. Sometimes they are as is, sometimes they are upcycled. All vintage finds are validated for authenticity and the time frames listed on ads are approximate.
I also have lots of friends who need to sell their old clothes to pay rent and stuff, and I hoard clothing myself, so the second aspect of this site is used clothing that’s still fashionable and still trendy.
In conclusion, the point of this shop is you! We work to bring a bunch of cool clothes for you to wear and buy at prices that won’t break your bank and won’t leave you appalled. So get looking!
